Makara wines manifest the unspoiled landscape of New Zealand. The steep cliffs of Makara Coast overlook Cook Strait, one of the most unpredictable waters of the world that separates the North and South Islands of New Zealand (created by the Boo Boo Fault line) and connects the Tasman Sea with the South Pacific Ocean. On land, our vineyards are strongly influenced by this maritime climate and our Sauvignon Blanc manifests the unspoiled landscape of New Zealand with purity of flavor and distinctive regional character.

Makara wines are sourced from two valleys within the Marlborough, New Zealand wine region – Wairau Valley and Awatere Valley.

Wairau Valley

To insure the wine is beautifully balanced, 15% of our fruit is sourced from the Awatere Valley on the Cook Strait coastline.

Awatere Valley

Approximately 85% of our Sauvignon Blanc is from the Confluence Vineyard in Wairau Valley with its warmer climate providing flavor characteristics of tropical fruit.
